N.O. Board Member (Statewide)
Position Summary
As a Board Member, you will play a critical governance and leadership role in advancing our mission. Board members serve as ambassadors for the organization, ensure strong financial oversight, contribute strategic guidance, and support fundraising and community engagement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Oversight:
Uphold the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Ensure effective organizational planning, financial stewardship, and compliance.
Evaluate and support the Executive Director/CEO.
Strategic Leadership:
Contribute to the development and execution of strategic goals.
Offer expertise, networks, and guidance relevant to reentry, nonprofit management, or criminal legal reform.
Fundraising & Resource Development:
Participate in fundraising activities through giving, networking, and outreach.
Help identify and cultivate potential donors, sponsors, or partners.
Advocacy & Community Engagement:
Promote the organization’s work within your networks and spheres of influence.
Attend community events, programs, or public forums as a representative of the organization.
Board Participation:
Attend regular board meetings (typically quarterly) and serve on at least one committee (monthly).
Prepare for and actively participate in board discussions and decision-making.
Remain informed about the organization’s programs, operations, and legal obligations.
Qualifications
Passion for reentry work, social justice, or criminal legal reform.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Previous nonprofit or board experience is a plus, but not required.
Skills in one or more of the following areas are especially valuable: fundraising, finance, law, HR, lived experience with incarceration or reentry, nonprofit governance, or community advocacy.
Term and Commitment
Board members serve a three-year term, renewable upon board approval.
Estimated time commitment: 4–8 hours per month, depending on role and committee work.
Compensation
This is an unpaid, volunteer position. Board members may be reimbursed for reasonable expenses related to board service.
